I. Current Happenings
Next Saturday Oct. 11th, 99 QVMS students have signed up to attend the Math Counts competition sponsored by Star Learning. QVMS is pleased to be hosting the events and will have concessions and registration. Bring your own calculator for the Target and Team Rounds. Mrs. Curtice will not be able to attend. So she would really appreciate parent volunteers to handle the registration and concession stand. She has already arranged for the pizza to be delivered and the other food items will already be there. High school students under the direction of Sushain C. will be in charge of the data entry. Parents are welcome to help score, but no parents will be allowed in the computer lab. Countdown round will begin around 11:30am. Please go to www.signupgenius.com to sign up or visit www.raidermath.weebly.com for the link. All help is welcome. II. The first TMSCA meet will be a free one. Mrs. Curtice has a window of October 10-20 to administer test of Number Sense, Calculator, General Math and General Science. She is checking to be sure QVMS is available Saturday October 18 from 8-11:30. Your students can be dropped off and take any of these tests. Then we need parents and high school students to score them so that Mrs. Curtice can enter the data onto TMSCA website. The the students can compare their results with other schools statewide. NO TROPHIES will be given, but concessions will be available. III. The first real TMSCA will be November 15th at Elkins High School and the following Saturday November 22th Dulles High School will host. IV. There will be a second Math Counts competition on November 22 at Harmony. That will conflict with TMSCA. Mrs. Curtice will be taken majority of the students to the TMSCA meet. V. AMC 8 will be November 18 at school. If your student is interested in taken this test, please see your math teacher. There will be a $3.00 fee to take this test to cover ordering and printing costs. The deadline to register is October 24th. More details regarding time to follow. VI. Fundraiser/donation update: Preliminary results of our fall fundraiser look very promising. Mrs. Curtice is looking into hosting a practice TMSCA in December or January. QVMS already hosts the Regional, but it will depend on how many surrounding schools offer to host. VII Club update Monday -- Will meet as scheduled Tuesday -- Will meet as scheduled but will need to end at 5:10pm that day due to a meeting at 5:30 for Mrs. Curtice. Thank you Mrs. Biddle for helping. Wednesday -- Will meets as scheduled. Mr. Shui has been our guest coach and is doing a fantastic job. Any 7-8th grader can come and learn some advanced problems that appear in the last half of the TMSCA General Math tests. A thank you to to Mr. Shelton, a new math teacher at QVMS for helping us on Wednesdays. Thursday -- Will NOT meet this week of October 6-10. See you next week.
