COOKIE DOUGH ARRIVES THURSDAY,OCTOBER 30 at noon – This year it is already sorted by student. Please plan to pick up your orders by 6:00 that day. I would like to have a parent or two come from 4:00 – 5:30. If interested, please contact Mrs. Curtice. Otherwise, Thursday Math Club will have to cancel so Mrs. Curtice can pass out the orders. Students having 5-6 items will be able to carry the items home on the bus. The items are guaranteed to stay frozen for 6 hours. Each student must deliver his/her own items to the customers. Mrs. Curtice does NOT have space to store left over cookie dough orders. Thank you for your great support of this fundraiser!
I. Last Saturday was a huge success for our first “Free” Kickoff TMSCA Competition. Over 150 students came to try a number sense, calculator, general math and/or general science test. A huge thank you to 30+ Elkins, Dulles, and Clements students who volunteered and scored, proctored and registered our students. Ms. Jean Yang managed the scoring and we finished on schedule. Your student should have received his/her test results by now. If not, tell them to contact Mrs. Curtice. By the weekend, you should be able to visit www.tmsca.org to view the kickoff results. II. Saturday, October 25, 65+ Raider mathletes are traveling to Atascocita High School to participate in the first TMSCA Practice competition of the year. Students have selected tests from number sense, calculator, general math and/or general science. We hope for great results! III. Saturday, November 1 – Klein Oaks is hosting a TMSCA #2 practice competition, but QVMS is NOT traveling as a school team. If you are interested in attending as an individual, Mrs. Curtice will post the information. A parent MUST be present with a student at all times. IV. Saturday, November 8 – Fifteen Raiders will travel to Texas A&M University to participate in the Math Competition for High School. V. Same format as previous, but there is a $7.00 fee for each event rather than $5.00. Deadline to register is November 7. Registration forms will be available Monday, October 27. MATH CLUBS – NO MONDAY Math Club – October 27 Tuesday Math Club – yes Wednesday Math Club – Yes for Varsity II- Maybe (If Ms. Nal is well) Thursday Math Club – YES Parent Help Needed: As the registration forms come in, I would like a parent to take them, organize them and create a spread sheet. I enjoy doing this, but it is very time consuming. Also, each check needs labeling. I have a disk that puts everything on the computer. Please contact Mrs. Curtice if interested. Last year, I ordered a number sense book from the coach in Flower Bluff, Texas. It was in a PDF file form. He has just contacted me that he had printed the information in a book. His team took first place in 4A at the State TMSCA. He, also, has free videos online. I told him I would print the link for parent access. I recommend that if you have a student interested in number sense, this would be an excellent practice book. http://mathninja.org/math-team/number-sense-video-lesson-and-workbook/ Please visit this and consider purchasing one.

First TMSCA Practice Competition - Saturday October 25th ATASCOCITA High School Sign up now !!! Download the signup form and detail information. All clubs will meet this coming week. I have a parent who has offered to type up a distribution list. This would greatly help as competition season has begun. THANK YOU to FBISD At the parent meeting in August I shared the news that transportation costs had depleted the Raidermath budget. I have been in contact with Dr. Dupre, all the school board members, Mr. Cleaver who manages the transportation department, Ms. Ogle, our principal, and Mr. Faust our area superintendent. I was notified this week that our middle school competitions now will be considered UIL and therefore, we will qualify for a lower fee for the bus drivers. In addition, FBISD is adjusting our invoices so that about $2000 to $2500 will be returned to the Raidermath account. If you see any of these individuals, please thank them on behalf of the Academy's raiders. Now we are going to be able to get a bus to take us to the first TMSCA practice meet in Atascocita which is 80+ mile round trip. The students will still be charged $12.00 fee, but this is manageable. RAIDERMATH SHIRTS Order form will go home with all math club students on Monday, October 13 for our Raidermath shirt that we wear to all competitions. We will hopefully to this online so you can order. A check made to QVMS or cash will be accepted. Please order by Thursday for a size. Any questions, please contact Mrs. Curtice.
