There are no club meeting any more this year!
Summer Fun If you visit the website www.raidermath.weebly.com, you can find some suggestions for summer math review for your student. The Village School offers classes in number sense, calculator, general math, and science. The Star Learning Center( here in Sugar Land in the Luby’s Shopping Center) offers a large list of various levels of math classes. Our Ms. Nal will be working there over the summer. Available on line is the Art of Problem Solving – which is higher level math. On line – I highly recommend www.mathninja.org. This website is maintained by the Coach of Flower Bluff. He has put all his Number Sense lessons on video for free. He explains this very well. He also introduce some tricks that are not in the Little Red book or the power point. It is worth visiting! Several students are going to camps away. If anyone has any questions, please contact Ms. Curtice Calculators: - Please look at home and make sure there are no QVMS calculators sitting around. You can return them – No questions asked! Next Year at QVMS Next year there will be changes in the Math Club Program. Participation will be based on skills. Ms. Nal will be leading our Varsity students and Mrs. Curtice will be directing all others. If you are interested in actively working with the students, please contact her. Parent Participation – We will have an organization meeting next year to set up parent volunteers. Mrs. Fu has managed the website for us this year, and Ms. Brough has done the sign up genius and created the parent and coach email lists. A hugh thank you to all the parents who accompanied us to San Antonio. Those moms and dads were a life-saver as those 122 students would not have made the trip without your help. Any suggestions are welcome. There are NO more math clubs this year.
Summer Classes If your student is interested in practicing and/or improving his/her math skills, please visit www.raidermath.weebly.com and see some possible classes available in the area. If your student is taking a class this summer, please notify Mrs. Curtice so she will know and can keep a list of who is practicing where. 1. THIS IS THE LAST WEEK FOR MONDAY AND TUESDAY Junior Varsity math afternoon clubs. The Varsity Math Club will not be meeting any more this month.
We introduced HP 33 calculator and the TI calculator to the students and practiced the correct procedure for entry of numbers. If interested in continuing over the summer, consider taking the calculator workshop offered at THE Village School for five days. Go to www.raidermath.weebly.com for more information and registration information. 2. This week in math club we will be discussing number sense rules. This is a topic that your student could attack this summer and return a champion in August. All involved in memorizing a number sense short cut and then applying it to a problem. Again, if interested, consider The Village School’s number sense five-day class. Invitations were handed out on Friday, May 2, based on performance at State TMSCA and participation in math competitions through the year.
