Saturday, January 18, - Quail Valley Middle School’s Fifth Annual Math Counts Competition – It will follow the math counts format of Sprint, Target, Team and Countdown Round. Entry fee is $10 cash. Late registration at the door is $15. A Check to QVMS is acceptable for this competition. Registration forms will be available January 8. Deadline to register is Wednesday, January 15. Concessions will be available. Parent Volunteers are needed in the following areas: registration, concessions, hospitality, scoring, computer entry. Older siblings are welcome to earn YES hours by volunteering to score or work in the concession stand. Parents are able to volunteer on signupgenius. Contact Ms. Curtice for questions. Saturday, January 25 – Klein Oak High School is hosting our next to last practice TMSCA meet. We have a bus (first registered, first getting a seat). Maximum capacity on the bus is 53. There is a $10 fee to ride the bus. Each test is $7.00 and they do NOT accept personal checks. ALSO, Pizza is available for $2.00 a slice, BUT we must order BEFORE the CONTEST to get served! Therefore, on the registration form will be a place to pre-order pizza. While I realize this is an estimate, I will have the names of the students who pre-order and they will be served first. A student may bring his/her own lunch. Other concessions will be available. FOR Payment – cash is preferred. However, one check made to QVMS can be done if payment is made by Monday, January 13. Math Clubs Wednesday and Thursday Math clubs – They will meet on January 8 and January 9. Have a wonderful Christmas/Holiday break! Thank you for giving me the opportunity to work your student! We are going to have a fantastic second ½ of the year! Mrs. Curtice Last Saturday, 60+ Quail Valley students traveled to Fort Settlement Middle School to participate in a Math Counts Competition. The following students earned recognition for placing in the top 10 of their grade division:

Many volunteers are needed for reservations, monitors, proctors, scoring , concessions, library hostess, and computer data entry. More information will follow regarding registration.
TMSCA Practice Tournaments – If anyone knows of any TMSCA Practice Tournaments during January and/or February, please email Ms. Curtice. She has several Virtual TMSCA tests available to use during that time, but she would like to actually attend 1-2 if it is possible. Varsity and Junior Varsity Math Clubs Varsity Math Club – We are glad to announce that Ms. Nal has returned and is working again with our Varsity students. The Math Counts Chapter competition will be in February. Ten students ( a team of 4 and 6 individuals) will represent QVMS. They will meet both Monday, Dec. 9 and 16 from 4-5:30. Junior Varsity Club (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday) – These groups will meet only the week of December 9,10, and 11. Varsity Math Club #2 (Thursday) – This group of 7th and 8th graders will meet only December 12 due to mid-term exams. Volunteers – Some of our RAIDERS are asking for some extra help with calculator skills. This site is created by Mr. Gillespie, the Fluor Bluff Math Coach. He has downloaded his number sense lessons and they are free. Please visit this and move ahead with number sense. Mrs. Curtice will be attending the state board TMSCA meeting in Dallas. We have parent coaches for the morning and afternoon competition. Students must bring his/her own calculator and pencils. |
