QVMS Places in the TOP Ten Middle School Teams in the State!
Saturday, Carter C., Andrew L, Shree M. and Ben W., competed in Austin in the State Math Counts Math Competition. Ninety-two schools were there from the entire state of Texas. To place in the TOP TEN is very impressive! Please congratulate these four QVMS Raiders on a job well done! In addition, there were over 257 students competing. Carter is #27 in the state, Andrew is #28, Shree is #31 and Ben is #34. A great deal of hard work – now onward to the State TMSCA in two weeks where we will take 123 QVMS Raiders to San Antonio. Thank you reading this. Gwen Curtice State Math Counts –
Five Raiders (Carter C., Andrew L., Ben W., Shree M., and Jenny Z.) will travel to Austin on Friday, March 21 to compete in the State Math Counts Competition on Saturday, March 22. The first 4 students won FIRST place at the Houston Chapter Math Counts in February and earned the right to compete at the State Competition in Austin. Jenny qualified as a top individual. These students have been practicing some long hours during Spring Break to be prepared. We are VERY PROUD of them and wish them well. They will be accompanied by Mrs. Curtice and Mrs. Nal. TMSCA State Competition – San Antonio Would you believe…124 students qualified to go to the State Math Competition on April 4-5 in San Antonio? That is the largest group ever! Students had to qualify by earning a certain score in number sense, calculator, general math and/or general science. Parents are needed as chaperones to accompany the three teachers on the three buses. Mrs. Curtice will already be in San Antonio as she is on the State Board of TMSCA and is in charge of the entire State Middle School Meet. Any questions, please contact Mrs. Curtice. Regional Math Competition – March 8 A huge success – 450 students and over 1400 tests were given on Saturday, March 8. A gigantic thank you to all the parents and student volunteers. QVMS took FIRST PLACE in MATH and FIRST PLACE in SCIENCE and earned 2nd place Sweepstakes. Visit www.raidermath.weebly.com for more details. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Mrs. Curtice is looking for a parent to make the 124 name tags. She has all the materials – she needs someone to type in all the names and print them out. If interested, please email her. VOLUNTEERS INFORMATION I. Chaperones – The following names have been received as volunteers as chaperones for the State TMSCA Competition Trip to San Antonio. If your student is one of these and you are planning to drive him/her to San Antonio, PLEASE let Mrs. Curtice know.
