The contest is located at 3019 FM 1092 (Quail Valley Middle School) in Missouri City; a map and directions are available here. Prizes will be given to the top students in each grade level, as well as to the top teams. Students are expected to bring their own pencils and calculators. Every group of up to 12 students that registers for the contest must be accompanied by an adult sponsor who is willing to help proctor or grade tests (this sponsor should be designated on the registration form). Parents can register individual students and serve as sponsors if necessary, but we recommend that parents check to see if there is anyone else at the school who is planning to attend before registering an individual student. We leave Friday, April 10 with three buses filled with 108 students, three teachers and 15 chaperones to travel to the Texas Math and Science Coaches Association (TMSCA) State Competition. The students will participate on Saturday at the University of Texas Campus in the 6A division in the areas of number sense, calculator, general math and general science.
We wish all our Raidermathletes good luck and safe travel! A huge thank you to Mrs. Brough for printing the name tags for Mrs. Curtice. Math Clubs - Next WEEK There will be NO math clubs next week. STATE MATH COUNTS – FIRST and SECOND - FBISD Saturday, March 28, in Austin, Texas was the State Math Counts Competition. Eight-nine schools from across the state of Texas participated in the event. Sponsored by the Texas Association of Professional Engineers, students competed in complex, high level problem solving. Quail Valley Middle School was awarded first place team. Those students were Andrew Liu, Shree Mohan, Ben Wright, and Ethan Zahid. Fort Settlement Middle School was awarded second place team. Those members were Archer Wang, Eric Wu, Claire Zhou and Akash K. Tradition is that the coach from the first place team will be the coach for the State Team of four for the National Math Counts to be held in Boston, Massachusetts in May. That will be Coach Isil Nal from QVMS. Then came the count down round where the top ten students compete one-on- one to advance to the top four. We are proud the announce that Andrew L, and Allen Z from QVMS were FIRST and SECOND! Then Archer W and Eric W were THIRD and FOURTH! Thus, the team for 2015 representing the state of Texas at the National Math Counts in Boston, Massachusetts in May will all be FBISD students – two from Quail Valley Middle School and Fort Settlement Middle School. The coaches are Ms. Isil Nal and Mrs. Gwen Curtice and Mrs. Sherri Phegley, QVMS and FSMS respectively. (This competition will be televised live in May.)
