Mrs. Curtice regrets that she had to cancel most of the afternoon clubs the week of Nov. 17-21. Tuesday there was the AMC 8 to give, count, check and mail out. Then Wednesday and Thursday was the District Benchmark tests. Counting and checking every answer key takes time and must be done after school.
Therefore, the week we return, we will have club EVERY day of Dec. 1-5. Depending on reviews for mid-term exams, Mrs. Curtice will try to have club Dec. 8-12. Read the newsletter to find out. I. Competition Results – WOW! Our Raidermathletes took First Place Sweepstakes at Elkins High School on Saturday, November 15. Over ninety(90) students participated in number sense, calculator, general math and/or general science. One of our 8th graders, Andrew L. made a perfect score in General Math. We ended up with 2nd team in number sense, 1st team in calculator, 2nd team in General Math (we lost to FSMS by 2 points), but finished very strong as 1st team in science to claim top position – First Place Sweepstakes. Fifteen 6th, 7th and 8th graders traveled to Texas A&M University on Saturday, November 8 to compete in the Texas A&M University High School Math Competition. Over 1100 high school students competed in this event. The team results were as follows: 1st place- Clements High School (FBISD) 2nd place- Westwood High School 3rd place- Quail Valley MIDDLE School (FBISD) A special thanks to our Math Coaches Mrs. Curtice and Ms. Nal and our parent volunteers. AMAZING QVMS MATHLETE One of our Academy Raiders, Ben W., has been selected as one of only two boys to attend a math camp/competition in Hong Kong this summer. This achievement is based on Ben’s performance on a qualifying test on which he earned a perfect score. Thousands of students across the U.S.A. attempted to qualify for this unique opportunity, but only four were chosen. Congratulations to Ben on his accomplishment! We are excited to be able to cheer you on in Hong Kong this summer! As you can see, QVMS Raidermath students are competing and doing very well. QVMS was the only middle school to place at the Texas A&M University high school competition this last weekend. FBISD’s excellent academy system is to thank for this accomplishment – along with a lot of hard work from these fifteen students. This weekend over 70 Raiders mathletes will convene at Elkins High School for the TMSCA Competition on Saturday, November 15. You are welcome to come see the activities. I. Competitions
