**** ALL MATH CLUBS WILL RESUME MEETING Mon. – Thurs. January 12-15 from 4:10 to 5:30.****
I. TMSCA Competition – Saturday, January 17 – Klein High School This may be last TMSCA PRACTICE competition before qualifying tournaments begin in February. BLUE registration forms are available from the green bulletin boards. This has been announced every day on the daily announcements. The deadline for registering is Tuesday, January 14. There is a bus available for a round trip ticket price of $12. If we don’t have at least 20 students, the bus will have to cancel. Currently we have 4 students registered. Mrs. Curtice knows many students are planning to attend. PLEASE bring your forms on Monday. IT is a quick registration time with just returning from holiday break! Each test (number sense, calculator, general math, and/or general science) is $5.00. If you wish to get pizza for lunch, you must order it on your blue form. Klein High School orders exactly what we request. They do not have a extra supply, so get your food orders in NOW! II. Qualifying tournaments – Starting February 21, February 28 and March 4 – Your student will have three opportunities to qualify for the STATE TMSCA competition to be held in San Antonio on April 11. The sites will be THE VILLAGE SCHOOL, FIRST COLONY MIDDLE SCHOOL and REGIONAL TMSCA will be our own QUAIL VALLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL. THE qualifying numbers will be announced next week during Math Club. If your student qualifies at The VILLAGE SCHOOL, it is strongly recommended that he/she still compete in the other two competitions for the practice. Email Mrs. Curtice your questions. PARENT MEETING – WE will have a parent meeting on Tuesday, January 20 at 6 p.m. to begin organizing for hosting the Regional TMSCA meeting. Mrs. Curtice will need 3-5 parents to handle registration table check in, 2-5 parents to work the concession stand (one person to specifically be in charge of it) Mrs. Curtice will purchase all the items and drinks, 1-2 parents to run the scoring room in the library, 2-4 parents to be runners between the rooms, and MANY MANY scorers. There will be a sign up list on SIGN UP GENIUS soon. Last year we had 400 students and that takes many volunteers to be successful. I hope to have our former QVMS GT students from DULLES High School again handling all the input data for us. They did a magnificent job last year. III. QVMS IN THE NEWS!!! Fifty-nine students took the AMC 8 math test in November. We have just been notified that we were ONE of only TWO schools in TEXAS to have a perfect score with our top 3 STUDENTS. Quail Valley Middle School and a Rice University School have earned that honor. The AMC 8 is a test for 9-10 graders but advanced middle school students participated. This year we had FOUR perfect scores: two eighth graders, one seventh grader and one sixth grader. They were Kevin J, Vincent L, Allen Y and Naveen M. Details are posted in the hallways at QVMS. WAY TO GO!!! IV. Calling all ALGEBRA and GEOMETRY students – On January 31, the University of Houston is offering a FREE math competition for Algebra I and Geometry students only. Your student MUST be enrolled in Algebra I or Geometry to participate! See Mrs. Curtice if you are interested in participating. Students must provide their own transportation. For more information, google UH math contest and you can get the details. Happy New Year! And welcome back to school!
