1. Competition Update
This Saturday eighteen QVMS students will leave at 6 a.m. to travel to TAMU (Texas A&M University) to compete in the TAMU Math Counts Competition. Mrs. Boitz will travel with the students and meet Ms. Nal, the Varsity Coach, in College Station. Those students attending are Andrew L., Kevin J., Shree M., Jenny Z., Michelle Z., Lauren Y., Brittany N., Adarsha P., Tony Y., Jeffrey Z., Michael Z., Allen Z., Ben W., Star N., Jackie S., Andy T., Brandon W., and Carter C., We wish them good luck. Also, this Saturday, ninety (90) QVMS) students will gather at Elkins High School to compete in the 2nd practice TMSCA meet. They have chosen to compete in number sense, calculator, general math and/or general science. They are under the direction of Mrs. Curtice, the math coach. Parents have volunteered to monitor the students as well as assist in scoring the tests. As our new Raidermath shirts have arrived, you will see a lot of “green Raiders” competing. We wish them success! Has your student brought home a “pink” registration form? It is time to register for our 3rd and final TMSCA practice for 2013. Dulles High School is hosting a math competition on Saturday, November 23 from 8:00 to 3:00. It is the same format as Clements and Elkins. The deadline to register is Tuesday, November 19. Math Clubs Monday – Varsity I Math Club and Junior Varsity #1 - We are lucky to have volunteer high school students who are former Academy students come over and work in small groups with some of our Junior Varsity.- 4:10 to 5:30 Tuesday – Junior Varsity #2 – 4:10-5:30 Wednesday – Junior Varsity #3 – 4:10-5:30 Thursday – Varsity Math Club #4 – 4:10 – 5:30 On occasion, Mrs. Curtice will have to cancel the weekly meeting as she must attend an after school event. Thank you for understanding. December 14 – Saturday – Have you visited www.raidermath.weebly.com to learn about our Fifth Annual QVMS Math Counts tournament? SIgnugenius has been activated as we will need many volunteers to make this successful. You could help with registration, concessions, hospitality, computer entry, monitoring, and/or scoring. Trophies and ribbons will be awarded. Plan to come and watch the Countdown. It is quite exciting!
