I. VARSITY AND JUNIOR VARSITY CLUBS All four clubs are up and functioning. The Junior Varsity I, II and III are focusing on number sense and will begin looking at calculator skills and Math Counts problems. Math Club times are 4:15 – 5:30 each day. Your student was given a small spiral notebook to write down each number sense rule. Please send $.50 to cover that cost. II. OTIS SPUNKMEYER COOKIE DOUGH FUNDRAISER All students participating in math clubs and taking the competition math elective have been given fundraiser packets. Follow the directions in the packet. If you do NOT wish to participate in the cookie dough fundraiser, there is a form included that explains how to make a donation to the RAIDERMATH Club. Each student is strongly encouraged to participate as this will be a credit to his/her account when the spring State trip arrives. Any questions, please email Mrs. Curtice Since there is no school on Friday, September 26, please bring in all fundraiser forms and donations on Monday, September 29. The Raidermath club is handling registration and CONCESSIONS. Please consider volunteering to work and grade. More information to follow. IV. Other competitons – Mrs. Curtice is waiting to hear from Clements High School for its date for TMSCA , but Elkins and Dulles High Schools will each host a competition in November. More information to follow. V. Parent Volunteers – A huge thank you to two dads who came Tuesday afternoon to help with Tuesday’s Junior Varsity. Being able to break into groups of 4-5 is much more beneficial than large group instruction of 30+. If you are available any Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday from 4:15 – 5:30, please consider assisting. Contact Mrs. Curtice, if interested. VI. Student Volunteers – We have students coming from Clements High School on Wednesdays. Mrs. Curtice needs some for Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Each student earns YES volunteer hours. Even our 8th graders at QVMS who are members in the National Honor Society have come as they must earn volunteer hours also. VII. Donations – Parents - Please check with your businesses and ask if they have any matching donation programs or volunteer programs that might benefit our math club. Exxon Mobil and BP do, but there are probably more. Please check the website often as Mrs. Curtice will post all updates these. We are creating a distribution list, but it is not completed to date. All suggestions are welcome. Comments are closed.
