I. Competitions – Last Saturday, November 16, was a big weekend for our QMVS Raiders! At Elkins, we had 46 sixth graders, 18 seventh graders and 10 ninth graders. Those students took FIRST PLACE in general math and FIRST PLACE in general science. All the individual results are posted on the green bulletin boards near Ms. Curtice’s room and near Ms. Boitz’s room. In Number Sense and Calculator we came in third with a third place Sweepstakes trophy. Thank you to all the parents who came to score and monitor the students! The competition ended an hour earlier than usual due to all the parent help! Your student should have his/her test results from Ms. Curtice.
II. Competitions – At the same time as the Elkins competition on Saturday, November 16 was occurring, Ms. Boitz and Ms. Nal had eighteen (18) Varsity students at Texas A&M University competing in the Mays Business Math Counts tournament. About thirty high schools and one middle school (QVMS) participated. In the AB level (pre-algebra and Algebra I), QVMS took 6 out of the 10 places! The in BC level (Algebra and Geometry) we had one students place 5th! We earned 4th place in Sweepstakes! Congratulations to all our Raiders for their excellent work! III. Upcoming Competitions – This Saturday, November 23 we travel to Dulles High School for the third practice TMSCA Competition. We have 45 sixth graders, 25 seventh graders and 15 eighth graders attending. This will be the first time ALL of our Raiders have been at the same completion! We are excited to see our combined strengths! Go to the Raidermath website www.raidermath.weebly.com for details and for information on late registration! IV. December Competitions – On December 14, Fort Settlement Middle School is hosting a Math League (Math Counts format) competition for intermediate and elementary. The morning session( 8:00 – 11:30) is for intermediate (7th and 8th graders and only very strong 6th graders). This is limited to 252 students. Then the afternoon session (1-4:30) is for elementary (4th - 6th grade) students. Again the limit is 252 students. I RECOMMEND our 6th graders take the elementary level as these test writers will write very challenging Sprint, Target and Team questions. This will be more for the experience of a different style test. For either session – the fee is $10.00. The registration forms are available on Monday, December 2. Registration is limited – so register EARLY if you want a guaranteed seat. Mrs. Curtice will NOT be able to attend the FSMS competition as she must go to Dallas to attend the TMSCA STATE Board meeting on December 13-14. She is the Middle School Director for the STATE TMSCA meet this April in San Antonio. THEREFORE – she is looking for a volunteer to be the coach for the morning session and/or the afternoon session. It can be two people. The parents did an excellent job at Clements. Although this is a different format, a coach is needed for both sessions to sign off on the papers and pick up materials. If you are interested, please contact Ms. Curtice. Volunteers will be needed to monitor the students and score. Please go to the www.raidermath.weebly.com website for more information and then to signupgenius to actually sign up. That link will be sent via email or you can contact Ms. Curtice . V. January Competitions – Our QVMS Fifth Annual Math Counts Competition will be held Saturday, January 18. We moved the date to avoid the conflict with FSMS and to allow Ms. Curtice to attend the STATE TMSCA Board Meeting in Dallas. All the volunteer information is on www.raidermath.weebly.com . Registration will be $7.00 for students and $10.00 for Late registration. More information regarding that will follow in December. No clubs will meet the week of December 16-20 Cookie Dough – Available for $16.00 a tub – Raspberry filled turnovers(1) oatmeal raisin (2) chocolate chip (1) Comments are closed.
